Daily Recipe Find – Sausage Filled Potato Dumplings
This could be dangerous find. Sounds fantastic although I have two additions. When making the mashed potatoes add roasted garlic. Then once the dumplings are almost done cover them with cheddar cheese and let it melt. I need to go buy some potatoes now…

Daily Recipe Find – Mason Jar Zucchini Pasta Salad
I really think I could just drink this dressing. I love avocado, and paired with all of the veggies and zucchini spirals, very tasty. I also like making the salads like this in the mason jars. I like to make several up, so when we want salad, or the family is hungry before dinner is ready I can open one up and serve while I am finishing up dinner.

Daily Recipe Find – Cucumber Herb Vinaigrette
I have picked about 50 pounds of Armenian Cucumbers this year. We just had our first frost, so now I found some big ones that were hiding. This recipe sounds like a good use of the oversized cucumbers. And, you know I would have to add some garlic.

Daily Recipe Find – Coconut Walnut Squash
This is a super simple recipe, and the coconut oil adds another layer of flavor. This is an easy side dish, or make it a main dish by putting it over rice, leaving all vegetable, or adding some shredded chicken.

Daily Recipe Find – Quick & Easy Skillet Chicken Jambalaya
Jambalaya time! Jambalaya is so flavorful, yet it normally takes a long time. This is a nice quick recipe. I don’t have any cooked chicken in the freezer. So I am going to cook that in the crock pot, then when I am ready to get dinner follow the recipe and put it all together.

CCFR – August 2016 / Mountain Bistro
After a summer off to enjoy family and fun our monthly meet-ups for the Cedar City Food Review Group have started up again.
I was so happy to see so many were able to make it. Old friends and new friends coming together for good food, conversation and laughter at Mountain Bistro. Most times I think of lunch as a simple thing, even with a group of people. Although, at our meet-up I realized it is so much more. As we gather with friends and strangers we all have trials we are going through. And, sometimes a simple lunch has a huge impact. A smile on a normally sad day, a laugh above a hard year. We should never underestimate the impact of simplicity. Thank you to everyone that could share the afternoon together. Thank you to Vicki, our fearless leader for setting this up. And of course to Mountain Bistro for the great food and service, thanks for having us.

Now for the food.
There are so many flavors and choices on the menu,
chicken, pork, beef, seafood and vegetarian options.
Several different sauces, mild, spicy and sweet.
I have my favorites, although when I saw some of the items others ordered
I don’t know how I am going to choose what I want next time I go.
SOUP
They offer three soups, Egg Flower, Hot & Sour and Won Ton. Our group ordered two of the three. Missing won ton.
Hot & Sour Soup – I thought this would be a spicy soup, although from the input it isn’t that spicy. I will have to try it next time.
Egg Flower Soup – This is a thick creamy soup even though it is a clear soup. Loaded with flavor.
APPETIZERS
Spring Roll Egg Roll – these are light and crispy, always one of my favorites.
Deep Fried Shrimp
Crab Puffs
Cream Cheese Won Ton
Pot Stickers- Another one of my favorites, and the sauce is so wonderful. Not a normal plain pot sticker sauce, this is loaded with extra flavor goodies as you can see.
Appetizer Plate – this can be ordered for two or four.
Barbecue Pork, Cream Cheese Won Ton, Egg Roll & Chicken Garlic Sticks.
They have plenty of noodle and rice dishes with combinations of meat, seafood and vegetable.
Vegetable Fried Rice – This isn’t your ordinary vegetable combination, it has the normal peas and carrots, and also loaded up with broccoli, zucchini and snow peas.
Their lunch special menu from 11:30am to 3:00pm is a fantastic deal and large portions. The meal is served with pork fried rice, spring roll, and your choice of egg flower soup or hot & sour soup. As with all of their menu options they offer meat, seafood, and vegetable options, spicy and sweet.
Sweet & Sour Chicken
Cashew Nut Chicken
Garlic Beef (also an option of chicken)
Their dinner plates, are just that, a full plate of whatever item you order.
These are great to share or not.
Offerings of vegetables, meat, seafood and tofu.
General Tso’s Chicken – Fried marinated chicken with green onions in house special sauce. I always thought this might be very spicy. Although if Vicki can eat is I know it is ok. This is on my list to try next.
Walnut Shrimp – honey glazed, pan fried jumbo shrimp sautéed with walnuts. This looks fantastic also, another one on my list to try.
Kung Pao Shrimp – Jumbo shrimp sautéed with diced vegetables, peanuts in hot garlic sauce.
Sweet and Sour Shrimp – Breaded & deep fried shrimp topped with sweet and sour sauce. These are jumbo shrimp, nice and tender shrimp, a layer of soft breading, then the fried outside. It sounds like it would be heavy, yet it isn’t. I also like this with a little bit of their spicy mustard.
Sweet and Sour Pork – Breaded & deep fried pork topped with sweet and sour sauce. This is the one I ordered. I have been craving it for a while now, even though I have never had it at Mountain Bistro before. It was worth the wait, and I don’t want to wait for it that long again. The pork was tender, light crunch from the breading and covered with sauce. Pair this with a little of their spicy mustard sauce and I loved it. I am thankful I still have some leftovers…getting hungry just looking at it again.
Thank you again to Mountain Bistro for the wonderful food and service.
